Charlie had an amazing support system along his journey, the sheer will to never say, “No,” regardless of the challenge was been admirable.
Resident Story
Charlie suffered a fall at home and upon EMTs arriving was transported to Community hospital where he was found to have pneumonia and MRSA. Charlie was quickly intubated and moved to the ICU for 10 days. He remained at the hospital for approximately two weeks before being moved to another facility to be weaned off of the vent and begin his recovery. In May of 2023, Charlie was welcomed to Wellbrooke of Kokomo. At that time there was minimal movement in his left extremities. He required a lift to get him out of bed and was unable to stand or even feed himself. Through his weeks of hard work, he transitioned from standing in the stand frame, to the parallel bars, and eventually taking steps with a walker. Five steps turned into fifty feet and Charlie is now walking independently with his walker around the campus. He is able to perform his daily tasks on his own, walks to and from the dining room for meals, and enjoys spending time outside.
While Charlie had an amazing support system along his journey, the sheer will to never say, “No,” regardless of the challenge has been admirable. When he was told therapy wanted to try the standing frame he said, “Let’s do it.” He didn’t hesitate the first time he was asked to try and take a step using a walker. He is even able to climb the stairs now.
After weeks of hard work, Charlie is able to return home with his family. Thank you, Charlie and family, for allowing Synchrony Rehab at Wellbrooke of Kokomo to play a role in your recovery!
